An unexpected blogging. I went to visit my folks, and was poured a glass of Beringer Zinfandel. It has an acidic opening, but finishes rather smooth... all things considered. Luckily another visiter was an Irish, extra-aged, white cheddar. This cheese quickly proved to be the highlight of the encounter, and actually bumped the wine up from an $11.99 disappointment, to a moderate 14 dollar. The cheese won (in a sportsmanlike manner I might add) a rigorous back-and-forth match of palate-ball, and was saved as best-for-last. In typical U.S. fashion, you just don't get what you pay for.
Next up was an Australian Shiraz, U-Brew, five bucks a bottle. Surprisingly A-OK! This young guy (aged for one year) took that Zinfandel and made it look like dollar wine. Palate-ball commenced with Marmite thinly spread on a cracker; and what was looking like a potential upset, resulted in a draw. Bringing out the best of each player and an improved backhand.
